Liability Insurance protection falls under three main headings:
Employers Liability
This insurance is compulsory for most businesses under legislation.
Employers have many legal duties and obligations towards their employees whilst they are at work, the most important relating to their health and safety.
Employers Liability insurance provides an indemnity in respect of legal liability for all damages and costs in respect of bodily injury, death, disease, illness or nervous shocks sustained by your employees arising out of their employment in the course of your business.
Public Liability
Whilst not compulsory under Legislation, most businesses cannot operate without this cover.
The policy provides an indemnity in respect of legal liability arising in connection with your business to pay damages as a result of accidental bodily injury to third parties, or accidental loss or damage to third party property. Claims may arise as a result of negligence either on your premises or whilst you are working away from your premises.
Products Liability
Provides an indemnity in respect of legal liability arising from products sold or supplied, or work or services you have undertaken during any one period of insurance.
Under part 1 of the Consumers Protection Act 1987, a consumer may have the right to sue producers, importers (being the initial importer into the European Community) or "own brands" i.e. suppliers who put their name on products and give the impression that they are the producer.
